I once taught a fish how to walk on land. He was grateful enough to teach me how to swim. (dude)

what's the deal with piano?

Posted by nubbinownz - July 16th, 2008

I can't seem to get away from it. Every song I make nowadays (unless it's chiptunes) has a piano in it. Is this bad ? I don't know. I mean I'm sure it's got to get boring for anyone listening, and probably makes all my songs sound the same. But it's gotten to the point where i just can't seem to start a song without throwing a piano somewhere ( if not through the whole thing).

I don't know if this is a bad thing or not.

You know, thats how i felt when i made my songs a while back. So i slowly tried using less and less of it. Countless number of songs from the past have piano in it as the main instrument besides drums. Bad thing? I dont know? You can always try doing different things with the piano? Or just try using it less and less?

I always enjoy it. Thats probably because i appreciate the piano as much as you do

: P

well the piano is awesome. and I have to listen to all your songa, 'cause the one you did in collab was great, DUDE. Hope you can pm me and can have a link from the pal that you worked with!!!!

So awesome DUDE!!!! XD

The piano is a beautiful instrument, the magic in it isn't lost if you keep using it to express yourself. In a way, using it all the time can be a bad thing because you limit yourself to a single lead instrument, but in the end, it doesn't matter, because it's what you do best.

By the way, if you ever get really really really bored, check out the revamped version of my song "Sleepless Nights". I think you liked the original, just thought I'd tell you a revamped version is out.

Good luck in the MAC by the way. (Psst, you should forfeit your submissions and judge instead ;P)

Nub, I've yet to hear anything from you that was 'bad'. Don't sweat it man, if you've got the piano bug, you've got the piano bug. Just play it out.

But if it's really bugging you, I'd recommend phasing it out slowly like mentioned, or maybe shifting the melody to synths after you write it just for a different sound.

Really though, just do whatever feels right :)

It's not the instrument that gets old, but how to express (use, play) it that could get old. If you keep expressing the same kinds of emotions with a certain instrument, it's going to get boring after a while.
